Radicalising Global IR: Modernity, Capitalism, and the Question of Eurocentrism

Abstract Theorising a non-Eurocentric “global international relations” has been main preoccupation of scholars associated with political sociology (IPS). In this article, I argue that within the IPS tradition have provided powerful critique of, but no clear alternative to, Eurocentrism. This is partly attributable to their insufficient problematisation historical narratives propel capitalism backwards into history. By problematising “presentist” conceptions capitalism, show critical dialogue between and “political Marxism” helps introduce an foundation for anti-Eurocentrism, which shifts our focus from “capitalist modernity” “radical modernity”. Radical modernity resists hierarchical colonial ontologies by emphasising universality egalitarian social patterns rooted in common, non-capitalist past. contend radical enduring legacy found universally, transmitted interactively, revitalised continuously across time space, hence providing base on theorise globalise “international” way.
